Five hospitals in Putnam and Westchester counties were given an "A" grade for patient safety in a new Fall 2024 report released on Friday, Nov. 15 by the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog organization that advocates for safety in hospitals.
These included:
- White Plains Hospital, White Plains;
- Phelps Hospital, Sleepy Hollow;
- New York-Presbyterian Westchester, Bronxville;
- Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco;
- Putnam Hospital, Carmel.
The new report grades nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country based on how well they protect patients from preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, according to the group. The report is issued twice a year.
The Fall 2024 report marks quite an improvement from Spring, as only White Plains Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital were awarded the top grade at that time.
The Spring 2024 report also assigned grades to other hospitals in the area:
Hospitals given a "B" rating were:
- Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, Mount Vernon.
Hospitals given a "C" rating were:
- St. John's Riverside Hospital - Andrus Pavilion, Yonkers;
- St. Joseph's Medical Center of Yonkers;
- New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, Cortlandt Manor.
Hospitals given a "D" rating were:
- Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla;
- Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, New Rochelle.
